Guest column: Honestly, who hates Kroger?

In 2010, in an attempt to distract from the real issue of her campaign - that she was beholden to special interests - Jody Smith falsely accused Melissa Northern of wanting to make FM 2499 a toll road.
That Melissa never wanted such a thing, or that it was even possible, was irrelevant to the strategy. With a billboard, print ads, and a full-out media blitz, Jody Smith then tried to make the mythical 2499 toll road the focus issue of the campaign. Voters were smarter than that and Melissa Northern was elected our mayor.
In this election cycle the new "2499 toll road" is the assertion that NFL hates Kroger. Of course we don't hate Kroger - that's ridiculous - but the truth isn't relevant to Hayden/Webb/Dixon's strategy this year, either.
I also encourage you to share the positive story of what has been accomplished in our town in the last two years under Mayor Northern's leadership. The town's annual reports provide good summaries of all our community has done together over the last two years that makes Flower Mound a great place to live, work and play.
