By Dan Eakin, deakin@starlocalnews.com
McKinney will join five other cities and other organizations to present a sprinkler-system workshop from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 31, at the Texas AgriLife Center, located at 17360 Coit Road in Dallas.
Other cities participating include Allen, Plano, Frisco, Richardson and Dallas.
The purpose of the workshop is to teach how an irrigation system works, how owners of irrigation systems can get the most benefits from one, and how water can be best conserved while getting the most use out of one.
At the March 31 workshop, six different stations will be set up. Attendees should be able to visit all six stations in about an hour.
The stations are as follows:
Station 1: How an irrigation system works
Station 2: How irrigation systems can be simply and easily repaired
Station 3: The importance of water pressure and sprinkler performance
Station 4: How to prevent dry spots in landscape with distribution uniformity
Station 5: How to conduct a sprinkler check-up
Station 6: Controller setting demonstrations and other demonstrations
A rainwater harvesting demonstration will also be offered at the workshop.
Guests will be provided information on how to operate an irrigation controller and how to install drip irrigation to water trees and foundations.
Information on plant selection for a water-conserving landscape will also be provided.
City representatives will be on hand to discuss water conservation measures, rebate programs and current water restrictions.
