Fairview Town Manager John Godwin has a new job lined up in Paris, Texas.

The nearly 10-year town manager was selected by the Paris City Council on March 5 to break the city's 14-month stretch without a city manager, according to the online news site eParisExtra.com.

While Godwin has not been made a formal offer as of yet, the Paris council picked Godwin over two other candidates the same day he was interviewed for the job, according to the site.

Speaking to the Allen American Tuesday, Godwin confirmed he had been in talks with the city of Paris and said he made the decision to seek another job to explore other opportunities in larger cities -- Paris has 26,000 residents versus Fairview's 8,000.

"Fairview's a great place, I love living here and I'd love to stay for several more years if I can do that," he said.

Godwin listed the development of The Village at Fairview, the nearly $7 million boost to the town's fund balance, a five-time bond rating increase and the establishment of a full-time police force and paid fire department as his proudest accomplishments in Fairview.

Mayor Sim Israeloff and council members did not respond to emails requesting comment on Godwin's possible departure.
