Campaign finance reports released for AISD candidates
By Conner Hammett, chammett@starlocalnews.com
Candidates running for the Allen ISD Board of Trustees submitted their first batch of campaign finance reports seven days ago, revealing who has been raising and spending the most money at this point in the election cycle.
Place 3 candidate Rona Zafari leads the pack in fundraising with $930, $750 of which came from private donations of $100 or more. Her campaign expenditures total $1,314, with the largest expense being yard signs, for which her campaign spent $1,017.
Place 2 candidate Carl Clemencich takes the lead in spending with $2,268, most of which was used to finance $1,299 in yard signs. A total of $693 has been used for the printing of postcards, and a total of $178 has been used for inkjet cartridges and paper. Clemencich, who has said he is self-financing his campaign, has not taken any contributions so far in this election cycle.
Incumbent Place 3 candidate Jason Shepard will go through this election cycle using "modified reporting," meaning he does not plan to raise or spend more than $500 and therefore is not required to fill out campaign finance reports. He filed an amended campaign treasurer form yesterday to confirm this after not correctly identifying his reporting process as such on his first submitted form.
Shepard said he chose to file this way because he is self-financing his campaign and will not be soliciting donations this election cycle.
"Hopefully I have some equity from the service perspective and that will be enough to get the voters out, so its more of a grassroots campaign," he said.
The next round of campaign finance reports are due May 4, eight days before Election Day.
