Flower Mound goes 1-3 at Tournament of Champions
By RICKY MOORE, Staff Writer
After opening play at the Duncanville Tournament of Champions with a win against San Angelo Central, things didn’t go well for Flower Mound’s volleyball team.
The Lady Jaguars (1-4) dropped its next three matches to end play at the event.
Flower Mound played without three injured starters — Sara Rudeen, Brittany VanArsdale and Rachel Cunningham.
The Lady Jags opened with a 26-24, 25-23 win over San Angelo Central. Hanna Johnson had 13 assists in the win and Annie Aspenson turned in 17 digs. Lizzie Theeseld had seven kills and Kristen Rice added six kills.
“We played really well,” Brinkman said. “We were consistent. Our communication was going well. We fought back each game to win.”
Things soured after that as Flower Mound lost to Plano West, 10-25, 12-25. Then fell to Keller in three games, 25-20, 21-25, 25-20.
“We played well against Keller,” Brinkman said. “Both teams were evenly matched. We just committed some errors that caused us to lose.”
Flower Mound ended the day with a 25-21, 25-20 loss to Plano East.
The Lady Jaguars play their first home match of the season Tuesday against McKinney North. They play at the Allen Tournament next weekend.
