Local dancers set for TV dance show
From submitted reports
Top Hat Dance Centre in Lewisville is in the midst of a busy season, both locally and across the country.
Two of its dancers, Christopher Jarosz of Carrollton and Chelsea Traille of Flower Mound are set to appear on the fourth season of the FOX reality show “So You Think You Can Dance”. Traille is in the top 10 group on the girls side, and Jarosz is in the guys’ top 10 group.
Traille and Jarosz aren’t the first dancers from the center to attract the attention of the show. In the first season, one of the female graduates made the callbacks in Las Vegas. In the third season, one of Top Hat’s dancers was cast in the top 10 guys but was required to turn down the show, as he had another professional contract with the Zurich Ballet to fulfill.
In addition, Top Hat Dance Centre will present its 34th annual show at 2 p.m. June 22 at the McFarlin Theatre at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.
This year’s theme is “Our Favorite Things,” with each dance representing a favorite of either a student or an instructor. Several hundred local dancers, between the age of 3 and college age, will participate in the performance. The show is open to the public, and tickets can be purchased at the dance studio or at the theatre door on the day of the performance.
The show will also feature some of THDCI’s Dance Company performance routines. These dancers have been awarded “Best of Show” recognition in competition this season.
“Gotta Dance!” is the studio’s senior company, “Steppin’ Out!” is the teen company, “StarDancers” is the junior company, and “Dancin’ Too!” is the petite company.
At Intermission, “Dance Dance Dance 2008” will be presented with approximately 25 invited “guest” performers. Female dancers were asked to invite a male friend, who is a non-dancer, to be her partner in this collage of dance styles. These young people have been rehearsing on Friday evenings for three months to be ready for this segment.
More than 25 Top Hat Dancers have been awarded scholarships for continued training, summer professional workshops, and performance opportunities in 2007-08.
Lauren Guerra received the coveted VIP award at “JUMP” this season, and Lydia Guerra and Kristin Schulz received the “JUMP” VIP Finalist honors.
Sarah Blanton and Tanner Richins received the CTG Agency Representation Award at “Co. Dance,” Brycen Rushing received the Top Entertainer Award, and Top Hat Dance Centre received the Studio Recognition Award.
In October, famous choreographers Joe Tremaine, Jackie Sleight and Doug Caldwell made a surprise visit to join in the celebration and taught guest master classes to the Top Hat Dancers.
More than 50 graduates of Top Hat Dance Centre are working as entertainment professionals in Broadway shows, in cruise ship shows, world tours with pop stars, in stunt work on films, and many other genres of entertainment.
